George Stinnes

George is a senior aviation and banking executive with considerable experience in corporate governance and finance, including responsibility for treasury, capital markets, investor relations, and tax.  He recently retired from British Airways plc, where he held senior management positions over a 25-year period, including Group Treasurer, Head of Investor Relations and Tax, with responsibility for core treasury activities, bank and capital markets funding, financial risk management (interest rate, currency and fuel hedging), aircraft trading, and pension asset and liability management.  He joined the airline in 1990 as a First Officer on the Boeing 737 fleet.  Prior to joining British Airways, George was a corporate pilot for United Biscuits plc for 2 years. Prior to that, he worked at Wood Gundy Limited (now CIBC World Markets) for 10 years.  His career at Wood Gundy included several positions in Canada, where he was involved with investment banking and advisory projects.  He eventually moved to London, where he initially led the primary market syndication, sales and trading group, and subsequently was responsible for global corporate finance, new issue, M&A and derivatives globally (excluding the US, Canada and Japan).   George is on the board of several banking, pension and not-for-profit organizations, including Bank of Nova Scotia International and Bank of Nova Scotia Trust (Bahamas), British Airways USA Pension Scheme, British Airways Savings Scheme, and Herries Educational Trust.

George earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from McGill University (received the prestigious Scarlet Key Award) and a Master in Business Administration from M.I.T. Sloan School of Management (research assistantship in international finance and technical assistantship in accounting). He is fluent in English, French and German.
